Afrobee Commission

Here is a graphic design piece for a client and her business Afrobee Essentials. She runs an afrocentric business and. was looking to incorporate the honeybee and and the Orisha by the name of Oya. Oya is a Nigerian river goddess in Yoruba religion, and warrior-queen whose energy is rooted in nature. She is tied to the African bee and the color red so it was important to incorporate all of these into the logo.

Working with her was easy. I had a great deal of creative freedom and she had a good general idea of what she was looking for. There was a lot of ideas as can be seen in the concept designs. I thought about incorporating sunflowers in some fashion, giving her multiple wings, or even making the characterized Oya the bee itself. I wanted the type to be more funky feeling, but still classy. Energetic and still very contained. I wanted it to reflect herself and what she feels for her business so the design for her logo tied all of it together. She loved it so it was a job well done.
